Title: UK UltraSpeed Maglev Plan B
Post by Admin-JD on Jan 26th, 2014 at 4:05am
In the years leading up to the 2010 General Election a group had ambitions plans for a UK Wide Maglev rail system, but the idea got bumped in favour of HS2.
The plans are still available at http://www.500kmh.com/

Japan is working on it's own Maglev system:

With them also trying to plug a similar system for the US East Coast which could go from Washington DC to New York City in bang-on 1 hour.:

The Chinese, of course, already have one......

I've been thinking of some alternatives the the Ultraspeed proposals with some different routes, as stated in the following posts..........

UltraSpeed North - my initial idea I had years ago.

This would link:
Newcastle Airport > Gateshead Metrocentre > Durham > Darlington > Durham TeesValley Airport > Teesside Retail Park (Roughly 46.5 miles - More than twice the length of the Chinese Maglev which is 18.95miles long)

Non-Stop I reckon at 400kph it could do the trip in around 11minutes.
Maybe around 31minutes with a 5minute stop at each inbetween station.

UltraSpeed Transpennine - an East to West route (or West to East).

This would cover a route along the lines of:
Hull > York > Leeds > Manchester > Liverpool = roughly 123miles long, so non-stop that'd be around 30minutes.

An added bonus would be that as the Maglev track is raised well off the ground, there'd be no delays due to Level Crossing mishaps, as has been known to happen with the existing conventional line Westwards out of Hull.

UltraSpeed Yorkshire / Anglia - a sort of HS3 route from East Yorkshire to London.

This would run between:

Hull (over the River Humber) > Lincoln > Peterborough > Cambridge > London (maybe nr Stratford International Station).

Total route length roughly: 160 miles.
Non-stop route journey time = under 40 minutes

UltraSpeed Anglia / SouthWest - This would link East Anglia with the West Country, and have an interchange with the UltraSpeed Yorkshire / Anglia idea mentioned above.

The route would be along the lines of:
*Norwich* > *Cambridge (interchange)* > *Oxford* > Swindon > Bath > *Bristol* > Exeter > Plymouth
(locations highlighted = crucial to the plan, locations not highlighted = optional).

Rough Route length = 188miles (Norwich to Bristol with full optional locations)
287miles (Norwich to Plymouth via Bristol)

Estimated Journey Time non-stop @ 400km/h:
c. 45minutes (Norwich to Bristol)
c. 1hr 9minutes (Norwich to Plymouth via Bristol)

UltraSpeed Anglia Midlands North - This would connect East Anglia, the West Midlands & the North West.

Route:
Norwich > Peterborough (Interchange) > Birmingham > Liverpool.

Rough distance: 207.5 miles
Estimated Journey Time (non-stop @ 400km/h): c. 50minutes.
